New Member Checklist: Matching Tool Demo

The Matching Tool allows Members to locate sound recordings that have not yet been matched to works in their catalog. Members can request that The MLC make those matches. This ensures you will collect the royalties you are owed for your work(s).

Digital Service Providers (DSPs) provide The MLC with this recording usage data. This is ongoing data that is refreshed monthly. The data you see in the Matching Tool represents uses of sound recordings reported to The MLC under the blanket license (since the beginning of 2021).

For example, there may be ISRCs (International Standard Recording Code) or sound recordings you did not now existed (such as cover songs) that you should be getting paid royalties on.

  • Once you are on the Matching Tool page, you should see the spaces provided to search by Recording Title and/or ISRC.
    • Please note:
      • Recording Title will show relevant results.
      • Recording ISRC will show exact results.
  • You can also add up to four (4) other criteria by clicking the Add Criteria button, for a total of six (6) criteria. The Add Criteria button has the options of Recording Writer and Recording Artist.
  • After you select the recording you would like to match to a particular work, you will then be taken to a page where you will search for the work that you would like to match them to!
