Using the Claiming Tool

What is the Claiming Tool?

The Claiming Tool is a way to search for works that already exist in The MLC database, add your information, and claim available shares.

When should you use the Claiming Tool?

You can use the Claiming Tool when a work already exists in The MLC database and you need to claim remaining shares for your publishing entity.

How do you use the Claiming Tool?
  1. Once you’ve logged into the Member Hub, click the down arrow next to Works Registration from the left-hand side menu.
  2. From the options that appear below, click Claiming Tool to be taken to the Claiming Tool page.
  3. To search for a work that exists in our current database, select your desired criteria in the drop-down boxes next to the search box. You may also add additional criteria by clicking the Add Criteria button.
  4. Once your criteria is entered, click Search.
  5. Results will populate below. Click View on the right-hand side, and a new tab will open with the current work details of that work.
  6. To edit details of the work, click the blue Edit button in the upper right-hand corner. A pop-up will ask you to confirm you wish to edit that work. Click Edit in the pop-up to continue or Cancel to go back to the details page.
  7. On the next page, click the blue Edit button next to the section with details you wish to update.
  8. After you have completed your edits, click the blue Submit button in the lower right-hand corner. Another pop-up will ask you to confirm that you wish to submit these updates. Click Create to continue or Cancel to go back to the editing page.
What should you know before using it?

Works in the “Pending” or “Processing” tab of Registration History cannot be edited until they finish processing. This review process typically takes one to three weeks.

Newly registered works typically take 1–3 weeks to process before they are accepted into your catalog.

What appears in the Claiming Tool?

The Claiming Tool shows works in The MLC database that are not fully claimed. If a work is already 100% claimed by your publisher entity, no further action is needed.
