Why do I need a user account?

To take any action in The MLC Portal, you must have a user account. The permissions within that user account determine which actions you can perform. For more information on each user permission, please read our Help Center article here.

You only need to create a user account if you:  

  • Manage your own catalog as a self-administered songwriter, composer or lyricist 
  • Are a publisher or administrator that collects mechanical royalties on behalf of a writer  
    • Please note: If you work for a publisher, your employer may add you as a user or you may have already been added if your publisher has an HFA online account.   

If you are a writer that is fully administered by a third party, you do not need to create a user account.
