What is "MFA" and how do I use it?

What is MFA and why does The MLC use it?

“MFA” stands for “multi-factor authentication.” This is a safety measure where a user is required to provide more than one piece of evidence to authenticate their identity.

The MFA system that The MLC uses requires a user’s email address, password, and an additional auto-generated code that is sent to either their cell phone or their email.

How do I successfully pass The MLC’s MFA?

In your Internet browser, open the page portal.themlc.com.

Enter your email and password in the corresponding sections. Once your information is entered, click the blue Login button.

When you setup your account, you selected to receive your MFA code either via text message to your cell phone or via email.

MFA code via email
  1. Open a new tab to log in to your email.
    • You need to open a new tab for your email because the Portal login page needs to stay open; otherwise, you'll have to repeat the process again.
  2. In your email account, you will see an email with the subject line "Your MLC Portal MFA Code." Copy the code in the body of the email.
  3. To copy the MFA code from your email, highlight the code with your mouse, then right-click your mouse. A menu will appear – select "Copy."
  4. With your code is copied, toggle back over to the tab with The MLC Portal login page and enter the code.
  5. To paste the MFA code, right-click your mouse on the line under the word "Code," then select "Paste" from the menu that appears by your mouse.
  6. Now click the blue Login button. Your MFA code will take a second to verify, and then you will be logged in to your account.

  7. Tips

    • You will receive a different MFA code every time you log in and each MFA code is only valid for 15 minutes before they expire. A code sent from a previous email will not allow access.
    • If you have previously requested an MFA code and have not deleted that email, the new code will show up in the same "thread" as the original email.
    • We recommend that you delete any MFA code emails as soon as you've logged in with it to avoid confusion in the future.

MFA code via text message

You will receive a text message with the numerical MFA code. Enter that code onto the line under the word "Code."

Now click the blue Login button. Your MFA code will take a second to verify, and then you will be in your account.
