What is a Rejected Match?
What is a rejected match?
Once you suggest a match to a work within The MLC's database using The Matching Tool, it is reviewed by The MLC's Matching Team. If it is determined that the recording cannot be matched to the suggested code, the suggested match will show as "Rejected" in your Match History view.
What is a partially accepted match?
You can suggest that multiple recording groups be matched to one MLC Song Code through The Matching Tool. If one or more recording groups were accepted but one or more of the suggested recording groups cannot be matched to the code, you will see the status “Partially Accepted.”
How to view the rejection reason
- Log in to The MLC Portal and select your Member account.
- From the left-hand menu, click Match History under Matching.
- Click Filter and check the box beside "Rejected."
- Click on the work title then click Rejected Recording Group on the next page.
- Click the down arrow on the right side of the table under Rejection Reason to view the full explanation of why your match was rejected.
Reasons a match may be rejected
- The recording is for a different work, and therefore cannot be matched to the suggested MLC Song Code. If you control shares of the work this recording should be matched to, please submit a new work registration.
- The recording is for a different work, and therefore cannot be matched to the suggested MLC Song Code. This recording has been matched to the correct MLC Song Code in the database.
- You attempted to match a recording that is a remix. If a remix contains other writers in addition to the original writers, a unique MLC Song Code is required. See note below.
- The MLC could not find sufficient data to confirm this match. If you believe this recording should be matched to the suggested MLC Song Code, please contact our Support Team.
Note on medleys: The MLC cannot match a medley recording to your composition if the medley also includes a composition, or compositions, that you do not control.
We would advise you to discuss the matter further with the administrators of the additionally included works, or to obtain outside legal advice as to how to move forward.
However, if all publishers of all the works included in the medley have decided upon a share amount for that medley work, they should register the medley as a new work registration with The MLC.
